In case you are wondering what's the title about. This week is known as week 0. Next week will be considered as week 1, the official start of teaching and learning. I hope that you have gotten accustomized to school and your friends. It is great to have you all once again.
Here are some important reminders (plenty of them):
- Health Booklets by Next Friday, 11 January.
- Students' Particulars Form by Monday, 7 January
- Science Workbooks (Energy and Interactions) by Monday, 7 January
- 3 Exercise Books for English (One for Vocabulary words/grammar uses, One for Journal Writing and One for Newspaper Articles)
- 1 Exercise Book for Science on additional notes/concepts that are important
- Files for the respective subjects by next week.
- Thermometers for temperature taking next week
For English, there is no more use of the textbook. Instead, we will be crafting worksheets that focuses on Grammar, Vocabulary and language structures. This is to prepare you for your PSLE. Each unit has a theme and that theme is reflected on your worksheets. As we go along, rest assure that it is not all about studying the language and its structure only. We will be going through passages and learning about values and new knowledge.
The reason for having 3 exercise books as mentioned above is that we are focusing on the skill of newspaper reading. As shown, newspaper articles are crucial as they are being used for major examinations and the PSLE for grammar cloze, comprehension cloze or the comprehension passages. As such, the exposure to newspaper articles will be useful. Through newspapers, you will also learn about current affairs and this will be useful for your oral conversations. As such, newspapers will form a integral part of our curriculum this year. Parents, you can help by going through newspaper articles with your children and helping them identify content and key vocabulary words. More information will be given to you.
For Science, the structure is still the same as P5. Workbook and worksheets are given to help the children.
As we passed through the first week, we reflect on the theme for this year "No gift too small" and the activities we have done. I hope that you have beared in mind the advice I have given to you. Start studying hard and study smart. Set achievable targets and work towards it. Motivation and Self-discipline are the two important traits you will need for this year.
Have attached the latest updated timetable here for you. Go green! :)
Thank You,
Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong
