Week of the Prelims

Dear all,

You would have known of your oral marks for your prelim exams. Generally, there is an improvement from SA1 and that is commendable. Most of you would be in the 20 and above range so continue to work on improving. Those of you who meet the target being set, do not give up and practise and make sure you improve next time around which is the PSLE oral examinations.

Some feedback:

  1. Some of you were not loud enough and lacked confidence. Please project your voice and do not be nervous. The examiners are not here to fail you or mark you down. Just speak naturally as if you are speaking for the most important 5-10 minutes of your life.
  2. Conversation aspect has to be improved on. Elaborate, talk about your feelings and give 2 or more examples.
  3. For all the sections, you have to use good vocabulary and speak smoothly without hesitation. We look out for how you read, your tone and volume even for picture description and conversation.

Important Announcements:

  1. The vendors will be collecting money for the photos tomorrow and Wednesday. Please bring your order forms and money and pass it to them at the canteen.
  2. There will be extra morning lessons from 6.50am - 7.15am in the classroom by me tomorrow and Wednesday in preparation for the paper on Wed. Do come to the classroom and make good use of the time when you arrive in school.
  3. On the 7th Aug (Wed), there is the celebrations for National Day. I am having extra lessons to prepare you for PSLE oral and to run through some questions in the PSLE booklets. You will have your break from 10 - 10.30am and from 10.30am - 12.30pm, we will commence the lessons. Do let your parents know.

Important points for Science today:

  • A rougher surface produces more friction when an object comes into contact with it.
  • When an object is moving upwards, it gains gravitational potential energy but loses kinetic energy.
  • When an object is moving downward, it gains kinetic energy and loses gravitational potential energy.
  • Energy loss occurs when some of the energy is converted to other forms and energy.
  • On land --> friction
  • In water --> water resistance
  • In air --> air resistance
  • When a tyre is older and worn out, it has less friction when it comes into contact with the surface and it has a longer braking distance.
  • When a tyre is new and not worn out, it has more friction when it comes into contact with the surface and it has a shorter braking distance.
  • When you have 2 or more objects to compare, also make sure you use words like 'more, 'less', 'most', 'least'.
Study hard for your Prelim examinations. I will be posting up revision notes for paper 1 and 2 for English soon.

Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong
