English SA1 Exam

Dear all,

All the best for your English Examinations tomorrow. You would have copied down the notes I have given to you in class just now. Here is just a quick recap of some of the important pointers for tomorrow:

Grammar

Verb - Noun - Verb (Present and Plural)

made him eat the cake.
made him run around the park.

to - verb (present and plural)

to eat, to take, to run, to study

Neither .......... nor ................
Either ........... or ...............

Look at the second subject for plural or singular

Neither Peter nor the kid is able to kick the ball into the net.
Either Tim or the boys have to eat the cake.

Should/Shall/Can/Could/Will/Would/May/Might + VERB

The verb that comes after that is Present and Plural.

should complete, can finish, may eat, will study.

Subject (Noun), together or along with ............. ,

Look at the first subject (noun) for singular or plural.

Please use your pre-reading thinking activity to help you for your comprehension mcq and open-ended. Spend about 10-15mins to plan and read before going through the passage and then moving on to answer your questions.

Check for tenses please!

Same goes for your comprehension cloze. Please read the passage first and make meaning of the characters, main event and place. Then highlight the key words and draw arrows. Finally, check for grammar clues (singular/plural/present/past).

All the best! Make full use of the time given to you.

Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong
