Week 7 - SA1 Examinations

Dear all,

We are right on the last lap to your SA1 examinations which will begin on Thursday. Here is a recap of the important points for today:

English

We focused solely on English today with the going through of your Unit 7 Supplementary worksheet. We learn a few new rules for Synthesis and Transformation such as:

Because of .......
Due to .............
In spite of ..........
Despite .............

After these words, we can use 'the fact that'.
Examples
Because of the fact that he was tired, he did not finish the housework.
Due to the fact that it was raining heavily, the cars moved slowly on the road.
In spite of the fact that he was the smallest boy in class, he could lift the heavy weights.
Despite the fact that he was sick, he completed the run.

Much to is followed by a 'pronoun' and 'noun'. This is the grammar structure.
Examples
Much to his annoyance.........
Much to my anger..........
Much to her happiness...........
Much to the boys' excitement...........

Pronouns : 'my', 'her', 'his', 'their', 'our', Peter's, Tom's, the boys', Father's.............

In view of your SA1 preparations, I will be having supplementary lessons for both English and Science this coming Friday from 1pm - 3.30pm. There is no supplementary tomorrow as I will be involved in the P5 Oral examinations. Thank you!
